What to expect in a hammam
A traditional Turkish hammam starts with time in a warm steam room, followed by a vigorous scrub with a kese mitt and a foam massage on a heated marble platform. It leaves your skin wonderfully soft. Most hotel spas offer hammam rituals alongside massages and treatments; book a day or two ahead in peak season.

When to go
Spa breaks work all year, but May, June, September and October combine warm weather with calmer resorts. Flights take around four to four and a quarter hours to Dalaman, Antalya, Bodrum or Izmir.
