Ölüdeniz, Fethiye or Marmaris?
Ölüdeniz: the Blue Lagoon and a long beach backed by mountains, with paragliders drifting overhead. Hisarönü and Ovacık: lively villages just above Ölüdeniz, with lots of restaurants and great-value hotels. Fethiye and Çalış: a working harbour town, with a sunset beach at Çalış. Marmaris: a big bay, a long promenade and plenty of entertainment, about an hour and a half from Dalaman airport.

When to go and getting there
May to October is the season, with June and September ideal for families: hot, sunny days without the peak heat of July and August. Flights to Dalaman take around four hours from the UK. Fethiye and Çalış are about 45 minutes from the airport, Ölüdeniz and Hisarönü around an hour, and Marmaris around an hour and a half.
Family days out
Take a boat trip from Ölüdeniz to Butterfly Valley and the turquoise coves, paddle in the shallow Blue Lagoon, visit Saklıkent Gorge and wade through its icy water, take a mud bath at Dalyan and look for loggerhead turtles at İztuzu beach, and explore the ghost village of Kayaköy.
