Bodrum or Didim?
The Bodrum peninsula (Torba, Gümbet, Turgutreis, Güvercinlik): chic bays, a castle-topped harbour town and lots of boat trips. Didim, Altınkum and Akbük: long sandy beaches and great-value family resorts, close to the ancient Temple of Apollo. All are reached via Bodrum airport; Torba and Güvercinlik are about 30 minutes away, Turgutreis about an hour, and Didim around an hour and a quarter.

When to go and getting there
May to October is the season, with June and September perfect for families. July and August are hot but tempered by sea breezes. Flights to Bodrum take around four and a quarter hours from the UK.
Family days out
Explore Bodrum Castle and its Museum of Underwater Archaeology, take a gulet boat trip to swim in clear bays, visit the vast Temple of Apollo at Didyma and the ancient city of Miletus, and spend an evening at Bodrum’s marina. Many resorts have their own aquaparks, so the kids may not want to leave.
