Which area of Rome?

Spanish Steps and Trevi: elegant streets, designer shopping and grand piazzas. Pantheon and Piazza Navona: the atmospheric heart of the old city, perfect for evening strolls. Monti and the Forum: close to the Colosseum, with a village feel and great restaurants. Near the Vatican: calmer, and ideal for an early start at St Peter’s and the Vatican Museums. Via Nazionale: central, well connected and good value.

How we chose these hotels

We sell 69 hotels in Rome. To build this list we started with every hotel in the city, then read what our guests say: every hotel here is well rated on TripAdvisor. We spread our picks across different areas where we can, and we only include hotels you can book with us today as an ATOL-protected package with flights and transfers. Prices change daily, so use the search box at the end of this page for live availability, or ask a Travel Designer for a tailored shortlist.

When to go and how to beat the queues

April to June and September to October are ideal, with warm days and long evenings. July and August are hot and busy, while winter is cooler and quieter, with lower prices. Flights take around two and a half hours from the UK. Book timed tickets for the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums well ahead, visit the Trevi Fountain early in the morning, and keep afternoons for a long lunch and a siesta.

Things to do and what to eat

Explore the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill, stand beneath the dome of the Pantheon, see Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel ceiling, throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain, and wander the cobbled lanes of Trastevere at dusk. Rome’s classic pasta dishes are cacio e pepe, carbonara and amatriciana; try supplì (fried rice balls), carciofi alla giudia (fried artichokes) in the old Jewish Ghetto, and gelato from a proper gelateria.
