When to go and getting there
The Canaries are warm all year, typically 21 to 22 °C in winter and the high 20s °C in summer, with the south coasts the sunniest. Flights to Tenerife South take around four and a quarter hours, and to Gran Canaria around four and a half. Costa Adeje is about 20 minutes from Tenerife South airport, and Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés about 30 minutes from Gran Canaria airport.
Things to do
On Tenerife, take the cable car up Mount Teide, go whale and dolphin watching, visit Siam Park and explore the cliffs of Los Gigantes. On Gran Canaria, walk the Maspalomas dunes at sunrise, explore Puerto de Mogán’s canals, drive into the mountains to Roque Nublo and wander the old Vegueta quarter of Las Palmas.
