Xanadu Island occupies a show-stopping spot on a private peninsula facing the Aegean Sea, with 360-degree views of glittering water and nearby islands. The resort feels wonderfully tucked away, yet you’re only a short drive from Akyarlar’s sheltered bay and the bigger buzz of Turgutreis with its marina, shops and restaurants.

Stroll down through landscaped grounds to the hotel’s own pebbled beach or claim a lounger on the sun decks carved into the rocks – wherever you choose to unwind, the sea is never more than a few steps away. Dining at Xanadu Island is designed to feel generous and varied. The main buffet restaurant lays on a huge spread of international and local dishes at breakfast, lunch and dinner – with live cooking stations, a kids’ buffet corner, highchairs and even microwaves to make life easier for families. Expect everything from Turkish favourites to Italian, Asian and Mediterranean classics.

In the evening, you can upgrade your experience in the à la carte venues (with reservations). Azzurro serves refined Italian dinners, while the dedicated Mexican restaurant offers Latin-American flavours on the terrace in season – both with a smart dress code for a touch of occasion.

Eight different bars keep refreshments flowing across the peninsula: from relaxed pool and beach bars serving drinks and snacks during the day to a sports bar, Irish pub, lobby lounge and a sunset disco bar for adults. Selected international branded beverages are typically included 24 hours a day as part of the All Inclusive Plus concept.

With the Aegean as a backdrop, days at Xanadu Island naturally revolve around the water. There are three outdoor freshwater pools, including a main infinity-style pool that seems to merge into the sea and a separate children’s pool and section for younger guests. Loungers and parasols are plentiful and pool towels are complimentary.

On cooler days or for a change of scene, there’s also an indoor heated pool with children’s section and whirlpool in the spa area, usually heated early and late in the season.

Down at the hotel’s private pebbled beach, you’ll find sunbathing platforms and a beach bar for drinks and light bites. The clear, calm water is ideal for a refreshing swim with sweeping views across to Kos.

Wellness is taken seriously at the Shang-du Spa, where you can unwind in the Turkish bath, sauna and steam room or treat yourself to massages and beauty treatments (additional charges usually apply; minimum age around 12 years for most facilities).
