Map & location
Imerovigli, Santorini, Greece
Perched high on the rim of Santorini’s caldera, Avaton Resort sits in a prime Imerovigli position, giving you front-row views of Skaros Rock, the volcano and Aegean sunsets. The immediate surroundings are quiet and residential, but within a few hundred metres you’ll find Imerovigli’s whitewashed lanes, tavernas and viewpoints. The cliff path to Fira starts close by, making it easy to walk the scenic 2km into the island capital for shopping, nightlife and museums, then retreat back to calm at the end of the day.
Beaches such as Kamari are a 15–20 minute drive away on the opposite side of the island – ideal for a day out before returning to the cooler cliffside breeze in the evening.
- • Santorini (JTR) airport 8km
- Approx. transfer time from airport 30 minutes
Facilities
Pool & outdoors
The outdoor freshwater infinity pool is the heart of the hotel – a sleek, stone-framed terrace where the edge seems to dissolve into the Aegean. Sunbeds and parasols are set up to maximise the views, and complimentary towels are provided, so you can move seamlessly from room to lounger to spa.
There is no direct beach at Imerovigli itself due to the clifftop setting, but popular black-sand beaches such as Kamari and Perissa are easily reached by taxi or hire car. Many guests split their time between lazy, poolside days above the caldera and dedicated beach days on the island’s coast.
Spa, sports & wellness
The Avaton Spa is one of the resort’s most atmospheric spaces – tucked into a traditional cave and softly lit with candles. Inside you’ll find a sauna, steam room and whirlpool, along with treatment rooms for massages, facials and beauty rituals designed to unwind body and mind (minimum age 15 years, charges apply). Opening times typically run from late morning to early evening.
This is not a big resort with a long list of sports; the focus is firmly on relaxation. Concierge staff can assist with arranging private yacht trips, wine tastings, island tours or hiking to Skaros Rock for that classic Santorini viewpoint. Back at the hotel there’s a cosy reception lounge and terrace areas that invite you to linger with a glass of local Assyrtiko at sunset.

Food & drink
Mornings at Avaton are unhurried and indulgent. A generous à la carte breakfast is served directly to your room or terrace, with Greek specialities alongside international favourites so you can start the day facing the caldera rather than a buffet counter. Later on, the Sunset Lounge and à la carte restaurant offer light bites, snacks and beautifully presented dishes featuring local produce, Mediterranean flavours and classic Greek plates.
Expect a relaxed, dress-up-if-you-like atmosphere, with soft music and candlelight after dark. A smart casual dress code may apply in the evenings, and menus, opening times and any supplements can vary by season and board, so always check the latest details on arrival.

More info
Santorini is in the Eastern Mediterranean, using the Euro (€) and Greek as the official language, though English is widely spoken in and around Imerovigli. The local time is typically GMT+2 (GMT+3 in summer). Average flight time from the UK to Santorini is around 4 hours, with Avaton Resort about 30 minutes by road from the airport.
Imerovigli itself is known for its quiet, romantic vibe and spectacular caldera vantage points rather than nightlife, making it ideal for couples. Steep steps and uneven cobbled paths are common due to the clifftop setting, so it may be less suitable if you have limited mobility. As with all Greek islands, some facilities and services are seasonal and weather dependent, and local tourist taxes are usually payable on arrival.
Information is based on the most recent data available but may change; exact facilities and opening times can vary by season and occupancy. For entry rules and health guidance see the UK FCDO Greece advice.
