Where to stay in and around Parga
Parga town: the harbour, tavernas and Krioneri and Valtos beaches on your doorstep, but expect hills and steps. Sarakiniko and Perdika: quieter bays a short drive north, with beautiful beaches and secluded hotels. Kanali: closer to Preveza, with long beaches and a laid-back feel. A hire car is useful if you stay outside town.

When to go and getting there
May to October is the season, with June and September ideal: warm sea, comfortable temperatures and fewer people. Flights to Preveza take around three and a quarter hours from the UK, and Parga is about an hour from the airport.
Things to do and what to eat
Climb up to the Venetian castle for the view over the bay, swim out to the Panagia islet, take a boat trip to the islands of Paxos and Antipaxos with their turquoise water, and float down the Acheron River, the mythical river of the underworld. Try fresh grilled fish, local cheese pies and kumquat liqueur.
