Nidri: the main resort on the east coast, with tavernas, bars and boat trips to the islands of Meganisi, Skorpios and Kalamos. Nikiana and Lygia: quieter fishing villages between Lefkas Town and Nidri, with sea views and a relaxed pace. The famous west-coast beaches are a scenic drive away, so a hire car is worthwhile.

When to go and getting there
May to October is the season, with June and September ideal for warm sea and quiet beaches. Flights to Preveza take around three and a quarter hours from the UK, and Lefkas is around 30 to 45 minutes from the airport over the causeway.
Things to do and what to eat
Swim at Porto Katsiki and Egremni beneath towering white cliffs, watch the windsurfers at Vasiliki, take a boat trip around Meganisi’s sea caves and the islands of the Inland Sea, walk to the Dimosari waterfalls near Nidri, and wander the colourful streets of Lefkas Town. Try local lentils from Eglouvi, salami from Lefkas, fresh fish and the island’s wines.
