East coast or west coast?
The east coast (Faliraki, Kalithea, Lindos, Pefkos, Lardos, Kiotari): sandy beaches, calm water and the most family resorts. The west coast (Ixia, Ialyssos): closer to Rhodes Town and the airport, with pebble beaches and a breeze that keeps things cooler. The south (Kiotari and Lardos) is quieter; Faliraki is livelier.
Family days out in Rhodes
Explore the medieval Old Town of Rhodes and walk its walls, visit the Rhodes Aquarium, climb to the Acropolis of Lindos (or take a donkey part of the way), splash around at the Faliraki waterpark, look for butterflies in the Valley of the Butterflies in summer, and take a boat trip to Symi. The shallow water at Anthony Quinn Bay and Tsambika beach is perfect for little swimmers.

When to go and getting there
May to October is the season, with the sea warmest from July to October. June and September are ideal for younger children, with plenty of sunshine but less intense heat. Flights take around four hours from the UK. Ixia and Ialyssos are about 15 to 20 minutes from the airport, Faliraki around 30 minutes and Lindos, Pefkos and Kiotari about an hour.
