The best areas of Majorca for families

Alcúdia and Playa de Muro (north): the island’s best family beaches, with miles of soft sand and shallow, calm water. Perfect for toddlers. Palma Nova and Magaluf (south-west): lively, close to the airport and to attractions such as water parks and marine parks. C’an Picafort (north-east): a relaxed resort on the same long bay as Playa de Muro. The south-east (Porto Petro, Cala d’Or): pretty coves and quieter, more upmarket resorts.

Practical tips for families

Rooms: book family rooms or swim-up rooms early, as they are the first to sell out for the school holidays. Board: all-inclusive is usually the best value for families, especially with older children, as it covers snacks and soft drinks all day. Timing: late May, June and September are warm without the August heat. October half-term is still lovely, with sea temperatures in the low twenties. Transfers: Palma Nova is around 20 minutes from Palma airport; Alcúdia and Playa de Muro are around 50 to 60 minutes.

Family days out in Majorca
