Nestled on the green Gianicolo hillside just above the Tiber, Villa Agrippina Gran Meliá feels more like a chic resort than a city hotel. Lush terraced gardens wrap around an inviting pool, there’s a polished spa and gym to reset after sightseeing, and Rome’s A‑list icons – from Vatican City to the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain – are all within walking distance. Boutique-style rooms, refined dining at Follie Restaurant and thoughtful luxury touches make this one of Rome’s most sophisticated bases for a special escape.

Pool & outdoors
You don’t often find a true resort-style pool in central Rome. Villa Agrippina Gran Meliá’s outdoor freshwater pool is framed by manicured lawns, tall trees and terracotta rooftops, creating a cool, green oasis after hot sightseeing days.

• Sunbathing terraces with loungers, parasols and Balinese beds

There is no beach in Rome itself – think urban dolce vita rather than seaside – but the concierge can help arrange day trips to the Lazio coast if you’d like a beach fix.

More info
Rome is a year-round city-break favourite, with warm springs, hot summers and pleasantly mild autumns. Italian is the official language and the currency is the Euro (€). Local public transport is excellent, with buses, trams and metro lines connecting the city’s main districts – single tickets are inexpensive and easy to buy from kiosks and stations.
From Villa Agrippina Gran Meliá you’re well placed to explore largely on foot, but the nearby bus stop makes getting to farther-flung neighbourhoods simple too. Dress codes in churches – especially St Peter’s and the Vatican Museums – require shoulders and knees to be covered, so pack accordingly if you plan to visit.
