When to go and getting there
May to October is the season. Spring (April and May) is wonderful for wildflowers and migrating birds, while June and September are ideal for the beach. Flights to Mytilene take around four hours from the UK. Molyvos and Petra are around an hour and a quarter from the airport, and Skala Eressos around two hours.
Things to do and what to eat
Climb to Molyvos castle, visit the Petrified Forest near Sigri, watch flamingos and other birds in the Kalloni salt pans, tour an ouzo distillery in Plomari, and relax in the hot springs at Eftalou. Lesvos is famous for ouzo, its olive oil, salted sardines from Kalloni and ladotyri cheese.
