Tour overview

This 8-day women-only trip takes you deep into the M'Goun Valley in Morocco's High Atlas, a region of green fields, red cliffs and Amazigh villages, where you hike from village to village and share daily life with local women. Groups have up to 12 women aged 15 and over, led by a local female leader, with a local female guide for the four-day hike. You stay seven nights: two in a hotel in Marrakech and five in family-run gites and village guesthouses, with shared rooms and shared bathrooms. Seven breakfasts, four lunches and six dinners are included, most of them home-cooked by your hosts.

After a welcome meeting in Marrakech, private transport takes you over the mountains to the village of Bou Tharar, where you are welcomed into a family-run gite. Over the evening, you have the chance to try on traditional henna and kohl with the women of the village.

For the next four days you hike with your guide between remote villages. You walk from Bou Tharar to Agouti, then through the Agouti Gorge and the village of Almdoun to Rbat, and on to Issoumar, staying in simple village guesthouses where breakfasts of homemade soup, bread and mint tea set you up for the day. Following the M'Goun River back to Bou Tharar, you pass farmers at work in the fields and learn how local women support their families and communities.

On the way back to Marrakech, you stop at Ait Benhaddou, the iconic mudbrick ksar on the old caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a backdrop to many films. A final evening in Marrakech lets you explore the souks and the Jemaa el-Fna square before the trip ends.

The physical rating is medium, with four days of hiking and simple accommodation. This trip suits women who want an active, authentic adventure and a genuine connection with the people of rural Morocco. Every member of the group, as well as the leader and guide, is a woman, creating a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Your stay supports women and families in the villages you visit.
