Women-Only Tours: Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Cambodia, Peru and Portugal

In this story

Women-only tours used to be filed under “niche”. Not any more. More and more women are travelling solo or with friends, and many like the idea of a group where nobody talks over anyone, the conversation at dinner is better, and, on some trips, doors open that simply wouldn’t for a mixed group. In parts of the Middle East and North Africa, a female leader and an all-women group can mean being invited into homes, kitchens and conversations that most visitors never see.

We offer six women-only tours, and they’re surprisingly different: two are “expeditions” built around meeting local women, one is a proper hike through the High Atlas, and three are comfortable classic tours that happen to be just for women. Here’s how they compare, with who each suits and its honest drawback.

By activity. Morocco is a real hike. Cambodia and Saudi Arabia are rated medium. Egypt and Portugal are rated low.

When to go

Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Cambodia are best in the cooler months, roughly October to April. Morocco’s hiking trip runs in spring and autumn. Portugal and Peru run from late spring to early autumn.
