Luxury Spain & Morocco: Madrid to Marrakech – 19 Days
Six Spanish cities, then Fes, a lakeside resort in the Atlas, a desert camp in Agafay and Marrakech, in boutique hotels and riads.
Tour overview
This 19-day small-group journey pairs the great cities of Spain with the medinas, mountains and desert of Morocco, staying in quality hotels, riads and memorable feature stays. Groups have up to 12 travellers aged 15 and over, with a leader in each country. You travel by high-speed train and private vehicle, with a flight from Barcelona to Casablanca, and stay 18 nights, including a family-run boutique hotel in Seville's old Jewish quarter, the lakeside Widiane Resort at Bin el Ouidane and a night at a desert camp in Agafay. Seventeen breakfasts, five lunches and six dinners are included, from a tapas welcome dinner in Madrid to a home-cooked pastilla dinner in Fes.
After a walking tour of Madrid's Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and Royal Palace, a fast train takes you to Seville for two nights and a walk with a local expert through orange-scented squares and patios. You visit Cordoba's Mezquita, lunch at a family-run olive oil mill on the way to Granada and explore Granada's Moorish heritage. Travelling via Elche to Valencia, you tour the cathedral, central market and Silk Exchange with a local guide and lunch on paella, before a train to Barcelona.

A flight takes you to Casablanca, where you visit the vast Hassan II Mosque, set partly over the sea, before heading to Fes. Your leader guides you through the medieval medina of Fes el Bali, with its craft quarters and tanneries. In the Middle Atlas you spend two nights at Bin el Ouidane, with a boat trip on its turquoise lake and a visit to a local farming family.
On the way south you stop at the Ouzoud Falls, then spend a night in the red-rock desert of Agafay and wake for sunrise before travelling to Marrakech. A walk to Djemaa el-Fna and a guided tour of the souks and courtyards of the old medina complete the journey.
The physical rating is medium, with some long travel days. This trip suits travellers who want two contrasting countries in comfort, with good food and a small group. A new leader and some new travellers join for the Moroccan section.
