Best of Morocco: Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara & Essaouira – 15 Days
Casablanca, Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara, the Atlas, Essaouira and Marrakech, in a group of up to 16.
Tour overview
This 15-day small-group trip is a complete journey through Morocco, from the Atlantic city of Casablanca and the blue mountain town of Chefchaouen to imperial Fes, the Sahara, the High Atlas and the coast at Essaouira, ending in Marrakech. Groups have up to 16 travellers aged 15 and over, with a leader throughout. You stay fourteen nights: eleven in comfortable hotels, one at a desert camp, one in a traditional guesthouse in Ait Benhaddou and one in an Amazigh gite homestay in the mountains. Breakfast is included daily, with a lunch and four dinners, leaving plenty of freedom to try Morocco's tagines, street food and mint tea.
From Casablanca a high-speed train takes you to Tangier, then on to Chefchaouen, a town of blue-washed lanes in the Rif Mountains, with a free day to explore. A transfer through olive groves passes the Roman ruins of Volubilis on the way to Fes, where a guided walk through Fes el Bali, one of the largest medieval medinas in the world, reveals tanneries, mosques and craft workshops.

A long, scenic drive south brings you to the Sahara for a night in a desert camp and sunrise from the dunes. You spend two nights in the Todra Gorge, with a guided hike through the canyon, then follow the road of a thousand kasbahs to Ait Benhaddou, staying in a guesthouse near the famous mudbrick ksar.
Crossing the Tizi n'Tichka pass, you reach the High Atlas for a night in a gite homestay in Aroumd, below Mount Toubkal, and a morning hike through the villages around Imlil. On the coast, a local guide shows you Essaouira's medina, Jewish mellah, harbour and ramparts. A local bus takes you to Marrakech for two nights among its souks, palaces and gardens.
The physical rating is medium, with long travel days and some hiking. This trip suits travellers with time who want to see all of Morocco's highlights in one great-value journey. Pack light, as you will travel by train, local bus and private vehicle. The trip runs year-round, with spring and autumn the most pleasant seasons for the desert and mountains.
