Egypt & Jordan for 18–35s: Cairo to Petra – 15 Days
The Pyramids, a felucca night, Luxor, Wadi Rum and Petra, for travellers aged 18 to 35.
Tour overview
This 15-day trip for travellers aged 18 to 35 combines the great sights of Egypt and Jordan with nights on the Nile, on sleeper trains and in the desert, at a price that suits young travellers. Groups have up to 16 travellers, with a leader in each country. You stay fourteen nights: nine in simple three- and four-star twin-share hotels, two on overnight sleeper trains, one on a felucca and two at a Bedouin-style desert camp in Wadi Rum. Thirteen breakfasts, two lunches and six dinners are included, with all meals on the felucca and on the second night in the desert. A one-way flight from Cairo to Amman is included.
Starting in Cairo, you drive out to the edge of the city to see the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, then board an overnight sleeper train to Aswan. Your leader takes you through the town's bazaar, and free time allows an early trip to the temples of Abu Simbel. You then board a felucca, a traditional Nile sailing boat that works like a floating tent, and sleep on deck under the stars.

In Luxor you cross to the West Bank to visit three tombs in the Valley of the Kings and the great temples of ancient Thebes, before an overnight train returns you to Cairo. A trip on the Metro brings you into the heart of the city, then you fly to Amman for a walking tour from the hilltop Citadel down through the old downtown.
Heading south into Wadi Rum, you spend two nights at a desert camp, rising early to see the red sand and sandstone mountains at their best and exploring by 4WD. In Petra you have two days to explore the rose-red city of the Nabataeans, walking the Siq to the Treasury and climbing to the Monastery. The King's Highway takes you to Madaba, with stops along the way, where the trip ends.
The physical rating is medium, with early starts, walking and simple accommodation. This trip suits sociable young travellers who want to see both countries' highlights in two weeks. Leaders change at the border between the two countries.
