Egypt & Jordan Family Holiday: Petra, Pyramids & Red Sea – 16 Days
Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea, the Pyramids, Luxor and a Red Sea resort, with a flight and sleeper train, for families with children aged 5 and over.
Tour overview
This 16-day small-group family adventure links the best of Jordan and Egypt, with plenty of hands-on activities for children and a beach finish on the Red Sea. Groups have between 2 and 16 travellers, open to ages 5 and over, with a local leader in each country. You stay 15 nights: 13 in comfortable hotels and resorts, one in a Bedouin-style desert camp in Wadi Rum and one on an overnight sleeper train in twin-share cabins. A flight from Amman to Cairo is included, along with all breakfasts, four lunches and eleven dinners.
In Jordan you walk the Soap House Trail through the Ajloun Forest Reserve to meet women making traditional olive soap, explore the Roman ruins of Jerash and see the mosaics of Madaba. A walk through the terraced gardens of Dana village leads to Petra, where you squeeze through the Siq to the Treasury and join a family cooking class. After tea with a Bedouin family at Little Petra, you jump into jeeps to explore the Mars-like valleys of Wadi Rum and spend a night in a desert camp, followed by a day by the sea in Aqaba and a float in the Dead Sea.

A flight takes you to Cairo, where you visit the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx and try koshary, Egypt's favourite street food, before boarding the overnight sleeper train to Aswan. There you visit Philae Temple on its island and have a free day, perhaps for an optional trip to Abu Simbel. In Luxor you explore the vast Temple of Karnak, meet a local animal-welfare charity and visit the decorated tombs of the Valley of the Kings.
The adventure ends with two nights at an all-inclusive beachfront resort in Hurghada, with time for an optional Red Sea snorkelling trip among turtles and coral. There is time to relax by the pool or on the beach, with all meals included at the resort, before heading home.
The physical rating is low. This holiday suits families who want to share the wonders of Petra and the pharaohs, with a mix of culture, adventure and beach time, and leaders who know how to keep children engaged.
