This 11-day escorted holiday is a winter-sun break on the eastern Algarve. You stay all 10 nights at the four-star Hotel Alba in Monte Gordo, about 300 metres from a wide sandy beach, so there is no packing and unpacking. Return flights to Faro are included, from a choice of UK airports, and a tour leader meets you on arrival for the 45-minute transfer along the coast.
Two full-day guided excursions are included. The first heads west along the Algarve to Lagos, where a guided walk takes you through the cobbled lanes of the walled old town and you can visit the 16th-century Igreja de Santo António, known for some of the finest gilded woodwork in Portugal. The day continues to Sagres and its 15th-century fortress, linked to Prince Henry the Navigator and Portugal's Age of Discovery, and on to Cape St Vincent, the south-westernmost point of mainland Europe.

The second excursion crosses the Spanish border to Seville with an expert local guide. You visit Seville Cathedral, the largest Gothic church in the world and the site of Christopher Columbus's tomb, and see La Giralda bell tower. Then you walk through the courtyards of the Moorish Alcázar to the old Jewish Quarter and on to Plaza de España, returning to Monte Gordo in the evening.
Between the excursions there are six free days, including three at the end of the holiday. You could walk along the seafront promenade, follow the woodland trails behind the town or watch birds in the nearby Castro Marim Nature Reserve. Another option is an optional day trip to the fishing town of Olhão, Faro's old town and Tavira, with its medieval castle and Roman bridge. The hotel has indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna and a spa.
Breakfast is included every morning, and half-board can be added for a supplement. The pace is relaxed, with some walking from the coach into towns and sights. It suits travellers looking for mild winter sunshine with a few well-chosen days of sightseeing.

Day 1 · Faro, Monte Gordo Fly to Faro
Fly to Faro, the capital of the Algarve, where your tour leader meets you. The transfer along Portugal's south coast to Monte Gordo takes about 45 minutes. The rest of the day is free to settle in and explore.

Day 2 · Monte Gordo Free day in Monte Gordo
A free day. The beach is about 300 metres from the hotel, and the seafront has a promenade lined with restaurants. You could walk the woodland trails nearby, watch birds in the Castro Marim Nature Reserve, or visit riverside Vila Real de Santo António and Ayamonte, just across the border in Spain.

An early start for the western Algarve. In Lagos, a guided walk takes you through the walled old town, followed by free time. Continue to Sagres to see its 15th-century fortress, once home to Prince Henry the Navigator, then to Cape St Vincent, the south-westernmost point of mainland Europe.

Day 5 · Seville Seville with a local guide
Cross into Spain by coach for a day in Seville with an expert local guide. Visit Seville Cathedral, the largest Gothic church in the world, with its 300-foot La Giralda bell tower and the tomb of Christopher Columbus. See the Plaza de Toros, Spain's oldest bullring, walk through the courtyards of the Alcázar to the Jewish Quarter and finish at Plaza de España. Return to Monte Gordo in the evening.

How do I book this tour?

What meals are included?
Breakfast every morning, served as a buffet at the hotel. Half-board, with evening meals at a local restaurant, can be added for a supplement.
How far is the hotel from the beach?
About 300 metres. Hotel Alba has indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, a spa, a bar and a café, and rooms have air-conditioning and a balcony or terrace.
How much walking is there?
Some walking, mainly short walks from the coach into towns and sights. If you use a wheelchair or have walking difficulties, tell the team at booking, as access to some monuments is harder.
Is there an optional excursion?
Yes, on Day 7 to Olhão, Faro's old town and Tavira, at extra cost. Otherwise the day is free.
Can you tailor the trip?

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
