Walking in the Azores: Pico, Sao Jorge & Faial – 8 Days
Volcanoes, vineyards and sea cliffs on Pico, Sao Jorge and Faial, in a group of up to sixteen.
Tour overview
This 8-day walking holiday explores three of the central Azores islands on foot, travelling between them by ferry. A tour leader walks with the group, which numbers between five and sixteen. You stay seven nights in three- and four-star hotels, with breakfast daily, six picnic lunches and a group dinner.
On Pico you walk from the central highlands to the coast on the old donkey trail, with the option of climbing Mount Pico, Portugal's highest peak, and follow the UNESCO-listed vineyards of Criacao Velha, with an optional whale-watching trip.

A ferry takes you to Sao Jorge for coastal walks to the fajas, flat lands at the foot of towering cliffs. On Faial, the Blue Island, you walk from Capelo to the Capelinhos volcano and around the rim of the great Caldeira crater, ending in Horta.
The physical rating is medium. This trip suits walkers who want dramatic volcanic scenery and Atlantic island life.

Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.
Do I need a visa for Portugal?
No, UK citizens can visit Portugal visa-free for short stays, though the EU Entry/Exit System applies at the border.

Moderate walks of several hours a day on varied terrain; the Mount Pico climb is optional and harder.
How do you travel between islands?

Can you tailor the trip?
Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.
What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
Not quite the right fit? Make it tailor-made.
If this group tour doesn't match your ideal trip, our specialists will turn it into a private tailor-made journey — your own dates, your own pace, upgraded hotels where you want them, and the parts you don't love swapped out. Same destinations, just rebuilt around you.
