Tour overview

This 4-day short break is an easy way to add Zanzibar’s history and beaches to a safari, or to enjoy on its own. It’s an independent trip with transfers arranged, so you set your own pace. You stay one night in a hotel in Stone Town and two nights in a bungalow on the north coast, with breakfast and dinner on the coast.

On arrival you transfer to Stone Town, a World Heritage maze of alleys, bazaars, mosques and carved doors, once a great trading hub of the Indian Ocean. You have time to explore its markets, the old fort and the waterfront.

The next morning a guide takes you round a spice plantation to see and taste cinnamon, vanilla, cloves and ginger, before you transfer to the northern beaches, where white sand and turquoise water wait. Your last full day is free to swim, snorkel or relax before your transfer to the airport.

The physical rating is low. This break suits travellers wanting a relaxed beach finale to a Tanzania safari, including families with children aged five and over.
