Tour overview

This 13-day trip combines the great parks of Kenya and Tanzania with the beaches of Zanzibar. A local leader travels with the safari section, which uses 8-seater 4WD vehicles for a group of no more than twelve, and the Zanzibar section is independent with local support. You stay twelve nights in hotels, lodges, permanent tented camps and beach cottages, with full board on safari.

From Nairobi you visit a Maasai village in the Loita Hills and spend a full day on safari in the Maasai Mara, with an optional hot-air balloon flight. Crossing into Tanzania by Lake Victoria, you join early-morning and late-afternoon game drives in the Serengeti.

You descend into the Ngorongoro Crater in open-roof jeeps and spend time with the Hadzabe people at Lake Eyasi. A flight then takes you to Zanzibar for Stone Town and three days on the beaches of Nungwi, with a dhow cruise and snorkelling.

The physical rating is medium, with long drives on rough roads. This trip suits travellers who want safari and beach in one trip.

Frequently asked questions

How do I book this tour?

Tap any "Enquire" button on the page and one of our travel specialists will be in touch within 24 hours (often same day). We'll confirm availability on your preferred date, run through anything you need to know, and only ask for the deposit once you've decided.

What financial protection do I get?

Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.

Do I need a visa for Kenya and Tanzania?

UK citizens need an Electronic Travel Authorisation for Kenya and a visa for Tanzania, both applied for online before travel.

Is the Zanzibar section guided?

No, it is independent, with local representatives available to help.

What are the tented camps like?

Permanent tented camps with proper beds and en-suite facilities, not camping.

Which meals are included?

Most meals on safari (Days 2–9); none in Nairobi or on Zanzibar.

Can I have my own room?

A single supplement may be available; otherwise solo travellers share with someone of the same gender.

How many people travel together?

No more than twelve travellers, with a local leader on safari.

Can you tailor the trip?

Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
