Luxury Iceland: Ring Road, Glaciers & Lake Myvatn – 9 Days
The Ring Road from Snaefellsnes to Lake Myvatn, the East Fjords and Vatnajokull, in comfortable hotels with a group of up to 12.
Tour overview
This 9-day small-group tour travels the whole way around Iceland, following the Ring Road through a landscape of volcanoes, glaciers, waterfalls and fjords, with comfortable hotels and many experiences included. Groups have up to 12 travellers aged 15 and over, with a leader throughout. You stay eight nights in hotels, including a stay at the Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon near Vatnajokull. Eight breakfasts and five dinners are included, beginning with a welcome dinner in Reykjavik, and an arrival transfer is provided.
From Reykjavik a private vehicle takes you to Thingvellir National Park, where the world's oldest parliament met in a rift valley between two tectonic plates. In the Borgarfjordur region you see Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring, and the lava-field waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, before reaching the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, crowned by the glacier Snaefellsjokull, with its black beaches, sea stacks and fishing villages.

Heading north around the Trollaskagi Peninsula, you visit the fishing town of Siglufjordur, once the herring capital of the world, and stay in Husavik, Iceland's whale-watching capital. A scenic drive through the Lake Myvatn area reveals one of the country's most fascinating volcanic landscapes, with pseudo-craters, lava formations and steaming geothermal fields.
Following the dramatic coastline of the East Fjords, you reach the south coast and Vatnajokull National Park, where you walk to the tongue of a glacier and see icebergs drifting in the Jokulsarlon lagoon. Continuing west past waterfalls and black-sand beaches, you stay near Hella before visiting the Golden Circle's spouting hot springs at Geysir and the mighty Gullfoss waterfall on the way back to Reykjavik.
The physical rating is low, with short walks and plenty of time in the vehicle. This tour suits travellers who want to see all of Iceland in comfort, in a small group with the driving and planning done for them. An arrival transfer is included, and departures run across the year, with the chance of the northern lights from autumn to early spring. Summer departures bring long days of light for exploring the island's waterfalls and coastline. Pack warm, waterproof layers whatever the season. Whale watching in Husavik is a popular optional extra.
