Kilimanjaro: Lemosho Route Trek – 10 Days
Africa’s highest peak by the scenic Lemosho route, with seven nights camping on the mountain.
Tour overview
This 10-day trip climbs Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, by the Lemosho route, one of the most scenic and with a good acclimatisation profile. A trek leader and mountain crew look after the group, which numbers between four and sixteen. You stay two nights at a lodge in Moshi and seven nights camping on the mountain in two-person tents, with all meals on the trek.
From Lemosho Glades you walk through rainforest to Big Tree Forest Camp, then out onto the moorland of the Shira Plateau with views of the Northern Ice Field. A longer day via Lava Tower at 4,640 metres helps you acclimatise before you descend to Barranco Camp.

You scramble up the Barranco Wall to Karanga, then climb to Barafu Camp for a short rest before setting off around midnight for the summit. After sunrise on Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres, you descend to Millennium Camp and walk down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate the next day, with an optional game drive in Arusha National Park at the end.
The physical rating is high, and altitude is the main challenge. This trek suits fit walkers with a sense of adventure.

Frequently asked questions
How do I book this tour?
Tap any "Enquire" button on the page and one of our travel specialists will be in touch within 24 hours (often same day). We'll confirm availability on your preferred date, run through anything you need to know, and only ask for the deposit once you've decided.
What financial protection do I get?
Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.
How hard is the climb?
Very demanding at altitude. The summit night is long and cold, so train well beforehand.
What is the camping like?
Two-person tents, a mess tent and a toilet tent, set up by the crew.
Do I need a visa?
Yes, UK citizens need a visa for Tanzania, best applied for online before travel.
What is the success rate?
Lemosho’s gradual profile gives a good chance of the summit, but altitude affects everyone differently.
Do I need special kit?
Warm layers, good boots and a four-season sleeping bag.
Who leads the trek?
A trek leader with local guides, porters and a cook.
Can you tailor the trip?
Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.
What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
Not quite the right fit? Make it tailor-made.
If this group tour doesn't match your ideal trip, our specialists will turn it into a private tailor-made journey — your own dates, your own pace, upgraded hotels where you want them, and the parts you don't love swapped out. Same destinations, just rebuilt around you.
