San Francisco to LA Camping: Yosemite to Grand Canyon – 13 Days
Yosemite, Las Vegas, Zion, Bryce Canyon, the Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree, camping in a group of up to 12.
Tour overview
This 13-day small-group adventure takes the great American road trip through the national parks of the West, camping beneath the stars in some of the most beautiful places in the country. Groups have up to 12 travellers, with a leader who drives and guides throughout. You stay twelve nights: eight camping with facilities in twin-share tents, with thin foam sleeping mats provided, three in hotels, two of them in Las Vegas, and a first night in a multi-share hostel in San Francisco. Everyone helps with setting up camp and preparing group meals, which keeps the trip great value.
Your adventure begins in San Francisco, the City by the Bay. The next morning you drive into the Sierra Nevada to Yosemite National Park for three nights, joining your leader for an exploration of Yosemite Valley, with its granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome and its thundering waterfalls, and a free day to hike among giant sequoias.

Leaving via the high Tioga Pass, you stop at Mono Lake with its strange tufa towers and camp in the eastern Sierra, then cross the desert to Las Vegas for two nights of glitz and entertainment. From there you drive to Zion National Park, with its towering red canyon walls, and take a scenic drive to Bryce Canyon, famous for its forests of hoodoo rock spires.
Two nights at Grand Canyon National Park give you time to watch sunset and sunrise from the rim and join a leader-led walk along the edge of one of the world's great natural wonders. Leaving the canyon, you travel along a stretch of the historic Route 66 to Joshua Tree National Park, with its twisted trees and boulder landscapes, before finishing in Los Angeles.
The physical rating is medium, with walking, camping and long drives, though the scenery between the parks, from the Sierra Nevada to the Mojave Desert, makes the hours on the road fly by. This trip suits adventurous, sociable travellers who want to see the West's greatest national parks at a great price, sleeping under the stars.
