Hiking in Yosemite National Park from San Francisco – 6 Days
Four nights in a Yosemite lodge with the Mist Trail, Sentinel Dome and Glacier Point, from San Francisco.
Tour overview
This 6-day small-group trip is dedicated to hiking in Yosemite National Park, one of America's most celebrated landscapes of granite cliffs, waterfalls and giant sequoias, with four nights in a rustic mountain lodge in the heart of the park. Groups travel with a leader who guides the hikes and drives. You stay five nights: one in a hotel in San Francisco and four at a rustic lodge in Yosemite. Breakfast is included every day, with a lunch on the last day, leaving you free to cook or eat at the lodge and nearby restaurants.
Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting in San Francisco, with time to see the Golden Gate Bridge and the city's famous hills. The next morning you drive east through California's Central Valley and into the Sierra Nevada mountains to Yosemite, settling into your lodge and taking a first look at Yosemite Valley, with El Capitan, Half Dome and Bridalveil Fall.

On your first full day you hike the Mist Trail, Yosemite's signature walk, climbing granite steps beside the thundering Vernal Fall, where the spray drifts across the path, and on towards Nevada Fall for views over the valley. The next day you drive along Glacier Point Road to hike to the summit of Sentinel Dome, with a 360-degree panorama of Half Dome, Yosemite Falls and the High Sierra, and visit Glacier Point, one of the park's great viewpoints.
A free morning lets you explore at your own pace, perhaps cycling the valley floor, visiting the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias or hiking to the base of Yosemite Falls. On the final day you say goodbye to the mountains and head west to San Francisco, with a stop for lunch along the way, arriving in the afternoon.
The physical rating is medium, with daily hikes of several hours, some steep climbs and altitude up to about 2,500m. This trip suits keen walkers who want to make the most of Yosemite in a short break, with an expert leader and a comfortable base.
