This 10-day small-group adventure explores the best of south-central Alaska, from the fishing towns and fjords of the Kenai Peninsula to the wilderness of Denali National Park, home to North America's highest mountain. Groups have up to 12 travellers aged 15 and over, with a leader throughout. You stay nine nights in hotels, with twin rooms shared by default and a single supplement available. Breakfast is included on most days, with several lunches and a dinner, leaving plenty of freedom to try fresh salmon, halibut and king crab.
Your adventure begins in Anchorage, on the shores of Cook Inlet. You drive south along the Seward Highway, one of America's most scenic roads, beside the Turnagain Arm, where you may spot beluga whales and Dall sheep, then across the Kenai Peninsula to Homer, a quirky fishing town on Kachemak Bay. A free day lets you go halibut fishing, take a water taxi to the wilderness of Kachemak Bay State Park or watch bears on a flightseeing trip.

A scenic drive brings you to Seward, gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park. A full-day cruise along Resurrection Bay and into the fjords takes you to the face of tidewater glaciers and into waters rich in wildlife, from humpback and orca whales to sea otters, puffins and Steller sea lions.
Heading north, you drive back along Turnagain Arm to Talkeetna, a historic frontier town at the meeting of three rivers, with views of Denali on clear days and the chance of a flightseeing trip around the mountain. In Denali National Park, you rise early for a scenic bus journey along the park road, an Alaskan safari in search of grizzly bears, moose, caribou, wolves and Dall sheep set against vast tundra and mountains. You then return to Anchorage, where the trip ends.
The physical rating is medium, with optional walks and long days on the road. This trip suits wildlife and nature lovers who want to see Alaska's highlights in a small group, with plenty of choice on free days.
