Tour overview

This 8-day family holiday is designed for parents travelling with older children and teenagers, mixing outdoor adventure with Balinese culture, beaches and wildlife. Groups have up to 16 travellers, all families, with a minimum age of 10 and a local leader throughout. You stay seven nights in hotels, in twin or triple rooms depending on family size, travelling between them by private minivan. Seven breakfasts, two lunches and a farewell dinner are included, leaving time to try nasi campur and other local dishes together as a family.

Your adventure begins in Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali, with a welcome meeting. The next day you drive to Pinge village in Tabanan, stopping at a community house and a flower farm, then cycle through rice fields and past temples to an ancient banyan tree before a traditional lunch in a Balinese home. Back in Ubud you are free to visit Tegenungan Waterfall or try a yoga class.

A morning of white-water rafting on the Ayung River takes you through rainforest gorges, before you head east to the seaside town of Candidasa. In Pekarangan village a farming family shows you how they weave mats and trays from pandan leaves, and you try making your own before afternoon tea of Balinese cakes and coffee. You then spend the afternoon at Virgin Beach, a stretch of white sand with clear water for swimming and snorkelling.

On a guided rice terrace walk you learn how water shapes Balinese life, then cool off among the pools and fountains of Tirta Gangga Water Palace. Amed, a string of fishing villages on Bali's east coast beneath Mount Agung, is your base for a guided snorkelling trip in search of turtles, seahorses and coral, perhaps around a shipwreck. Finally, in Sanur you visit a turtle conservation centre to learn how hatchlings are cared for and released, with a free afternoon on the beach and a farewell dinner with the other families.

The physical rating is medium, with cycling, rafting and snorkelling. This holiday suits active families with teenagers who want shared adventures and time with other families.
