Albania, Kosovo & North Macedonia Explorer – 15 Days
Lake Koman, the Valbona Valley, Prizren, Skopje and Lake Ohrid across three Balkan countries, in a group of up to 12.
Tour overview
This 15-day small-group journey explores three of Europe's least-visited countries, Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia, travelling through mountain valleys, Ottoman towns and lakeside cities that remain refreshingly off the tourist trail. Groups have up to 12 travellers aged 15 and over, with a local leader throughout. You stay fourteen nights: ten in hotels and four in family-run guesthouses. Breakfast is included every day, with a lunch in the Rugova Valley and two home-cooked dinners in the Valbona Valley, leaving plenty of time to try local food.
Your adventure begins in Tirana, Albania's colourful capital, with a walk past the Skanderbeg Monument and the Palace of Culture, before a local bus takes you to Shkodër, one of the oldest cities in Europe, beneath Rozafa Castle. An early start brings one of the most beautiful boat journeys in Europe, along the emerald waters of Lake Koman between steep cliffs in the Albanian Alps. Two nights in the remote Valbona Valley follow, with time to hike among meadows and forests or simply share stories with the villagers over a glass of raki.

Crossing into Kosovo, Europe's newest country, you visit the UNESCO-listed Dečani Monastery and the restored Ottoman bazaar in Peja, then hike in the Rugova Valley, often compared to Switzerland, with lunch in a family home. In Gjakova you visit a Sufi tekke, and in Prizren, Kosovo's most attractive city, you climb to the hilltop fortress for views over minarets and church towers. A day trip to Pristina takes in the Gračanica Monastery, the Newborn monument and a sanctuary for rescued bears.
In North Macedonia, Skopje mixes an Ottoman old bazaar with grand new monuments, and you visit Matka Canyon, with its medieval monasteries and caves. The journey ends beside Lake Ohrid, one of the oldest lakes in the world, where a UNESCO-listed town once said to have 365 churches sits above the water. A morning cruise on the lake and free time for the clifftop church of Saint John at Kaneo precede the return to Tirana.
The physical rating is medium, with some hiking and winding mountain roads. This trip suits curious travellers who want to discover a little-known corner of Europe.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
