Tour overview

This 8-day self-guided trip follows the rivers and old railway lines of north-east Italy from the high Dolomites down to the Venetian lagoon. There is no group or leader: you ride at your own pace with route notes, a quality bike and luggage moved between hotels. You stay seven nights in 3–4 star hotels with breakfast daily.

From Dobbiaco in the Val Pusteria you join the old Dolomites narrow-gauge railway trail, gliding past pale peaks to Cortina d'Ampezzo and on beneath the Sorapis range to Belluno.

The route crosses the Piave valley to Feltre, then descends the Brenta Valley to Bassano del Grappa with its covered wooden bridge. You pass villas by Palladio on the way to canal-laced Treviso, and finish with a gentle ride along the River Sile to Venice's mainland.

The physical rating is medium, and the route is mostly downhill or flat. This trip suits independent cyclists aged 14 and over.
