Tour overview

This 10-day tour packs the best of Tunisia into a fast-paced loop, from the mosaics of Tunis and the ruins of Carthage to the oases and dunes of the Sahara. A tour leader travels with the group throughout. You stay nine nights: eight in hotels and one at a desert camp in tents with blankets and a bar. Breakfast is included daily, along with four dinners, and airport transfers are included.

A full day in Tunis brings the Bardo Museum, Sidi Bou Said and ancient Carthage. You then visit Roman Dougga on the way to Kairouan and its Great Mosque, before driving to the palm-fringed oasis of Tozeur, with a free afternoon for optional desert excursions.

Crossing the vast Chott el Jerid salt flat, you join a 4WD safari from Douz to your camp in the dunes. The next day you visit the Berber village of Tamezret and the troglodyte homes of Matmata, then drive up the coast to El Jem’s amphitheatre and the medina of Sousse. Your final day takes in the Roman site of Uthina and the Zaghouan aqueduct before a walk in the Tunis medina.

The physical rating is full-on, with long drives and early starts. This tour suits travellers who want to see as much of Tunisia as possible in ten days.
