This 8-day walking holiday explores the mountain principality of Andorra, high in the Pyrenees between France and Spain, from a single comfortable base in the alpine village of Soldeu. Groups have between 10 and 16 walkers aged 16 and over, with a tour leader throughout. You stay seven nights at the family-run Hotel Soldeu Maistre, built in the style of a stone and timber mountain lodge and furnished in traditional Catalan style. Breakfast is included daily, along with a hearty lunch at a mountain refuge, and a group transfer links Barcelona airport with Soldeu at the start and end.
Soldeu sits at 1,710m, a lively mix of rural inns, converted farmhouses and bars that makes an ideal base for exploring the valleys on foot. Your first walk follows the ancient Cami del Gall, a trail marked by a red cockerel, from the sanctuary of Meritxell, Andorra's spiritual centre, back to Soldeu, through mixed woodland, across streams and past waterfalls along the Valira valley.

The next day takes you into the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, Andorra's only UNESCO World Heritage site, a pristine glacial valley that is home to marmots, bearded vultures and ptarmigan, with a picnic at the Fontverd refuge. From Ransol you walk into the Vall de Riu, ringed by glacial mountains, to Canillo, with its Romanesque chapel and Andorra's tallest church tower.
A free day lets you visit the capital, Andorra la Vella, relax at the Caldea spa, walk to the Pessons Lakes or cross one of the world's longest Tibetan bridges at Canillo. In the Sorteny Nature Reserve, a botanical haven of more than 700 plant species, you climb to Estanyó Lake at 2,350m and stop for lunch and Andorran specialities at the Sorteny refuge. Your final walk follows the river through the Incles Valley, home to Scots pine and Pyrenean chamois, to the glacial Siscaró Lakes, before the transfer back to Barcelona.
The physical rating is medium, with daily walks of four to five hours and up to 1,000m of descent. This holiday suits regular walkers who want a week of varied mountain hiking without changing hotels.

How do I book this tour?
