Walking in Andorra: Lakes, Peaks & Valleys – 8 Days
Five guided hikes from a spa hotel in Canillo, including the summit of Casamanya, in a group of up to 16.
Tour overview
This 8-day hiking holiday is based in Canillo, in the heart of Andorra, and follows five of the most beautiful trails in this small mountain principality between France and Spain. Groups have between 4 and 16 travellers aged 16 and over, with a tour leader throughout. You stay seven nights at the Ski Plaza Hotel & Wellness, which has two restaurants, a lobby bar and a spa with a hydrotherapy circuit. Breakfast is included every day, with five lunches on the trail and a welcome dinner, and transfers to each walk are by air-conditioned minibus, with group transfers from Barcelona airport.
After a welcome dinner in Canillo, your first walk is a gentle warm-up around the Tristaina lakes near Ordino-Arcalís: three glacial lakes, from the deep blue Estany Primer to the largest, Estany de Més Amunt, where free-roaming Percheron horses graze. The next day takes you into the Incles Valley, a glacial valley of shepherds' huts and meadows that was used as a secret escape route into France by refugees during the Second World War, with a circuit around the Siscaró lake.

A free day lets you rest or take on a via ferrata, cross the Tibetan bridge at Canillo, relax at the Caldea thermal baths or shop in tax-free Andorra la Vella. You then climb Casamanya, the Heart of Andorra, at 2,730m, with views across almost the whole country, stopping on the way down at the Roc del Quer viewpoint, a platform jutting 12m out over the valley.
A spectacular linear route crosses from the village of Ransol past alpine lakes and over the Collada dels Meners pass, at 2,772m the highest point of the week, before descending into the Sorteny Valley, a protected reserve famous for its wildflowers. The final hike explores the Circ de Pessons, a glacial amphitheatre above Grau Roig dotted with mountain lakes and surrounded by peaks, a fitting finale before the holiday ends in Canillo.
The physical rating is medium, with some steep sections and altitudes up to 2,772m. This holiday suits fit walkers who want challenging days in the mountains and a comfortable hotel to return to.
