Best of Spain, Portugal & Gibraltar – 15 Days
Madrid, Porto, Lisbon, Seville, Gibraltar, Granada and Barcelona by coach, with a tour director.
Tour overview
This 15-day tour makes a grand loop of the Iberian Peninsula, from the art treasures of Madrid to the Moorish palaces of Andalucía and the Modernist architecture of Barcelona, with a visit to the Rock of Gibraltar on the way. A tour director travels with you throughout, with local experts in the major cities, and you travel by comfortable coach with extra legroom. You stay fourteen nights in named hotels, with breakfast daily, two lunches and five dinners, including a home-hosted lunch in an Andalusian village and a paella dinner in Valencia. Hotel and restaurant tips and porterage are included.
In Madrid you visit the Prado with an art historian, seeing works by Velázquez, Goya and Titian. Segovia's Roman aqueduct and Alcázar and the golden stone of Salamanca lead you west into Portugal, where you tour the port wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia in Porto. You visit Fátima, Portugal's great place of pilgrimage, and walk the walls of medieval Óbidos, tasting cherry liqueur, before two nights in Lisbon, with the Belém Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries and the famous custard tarts of Belém.

Crossing the Algarve, you return to Spain and Seville for two nights, visiting the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, the resting place of Christopher Columbus, and taking a flamenco lesson followed by a passionate performance. A local expert takes you up the Rock of Gibraltar, a British territory since 1704, to see St Michael's Cave, before two nights on the Costa del Sol, with a free day to relax or visit Picasso's birthplace, Málaga.
In the whitewashed village of Alfarnatejo, you taste olive oils and join a local family for lunch, then visit the Alhambra in Granada, a Moorish citadel of gardens, fountains and lace-like stone. A paella cooking demonstration and dinner in Valencia, a cava tasting on the way to Barcelona and a visit to Gaudí's Sagrada Família complete the journey, which ends with a transfer back to Madrid.
The physical rating is low. This tour suits travellers who want to see the best of Spain and Portugal in comfort, with plenty of included experiences.
