Discover Brazil: Rio, Paraty, Iguaçu & the Amazon – 11 Days
Rio, Tijuca, Paraty, both sides of Iguaçu and an Amazon village stay, in a group of 4 to 16.
Tour overview
This 11-day small-group tour links Brazil's most famous city with the colonial Costa Verde, the mighty Iguaçu Falls and the Amazon rainforest. Groups have between 4 and 16 travellers aged 16 and over, with a tour leader throughout. You stay ten nights in locally owned, well-located properties: seven in hotels and three in guesthouses and community lodgings, including two nights at Poranduba Lodge in an Amazonian village on the Rio Negro. All breakfasts are included, with a lunch and four dinners, among them a welcome dinner in Rio and meals in the Amazon.
Your adventure begins in Rio de Janeiro, an electric city of golden beaches and forested mountains. A scenic cable car ride takes you up Sugarloaf Mountain for views over Guanabara Bay, and you visit the statue of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado. The next morning you hike in Tijuca National Park, one of the largest urban forests in the world, before travelling down the coast to Paraty.

From Paraty Pier you take a boat tour to discover the history of this colonial port and the islands and beaches of its bay, with a free morning to wander its cobbled streets before driving to São Paulo. A flight takes you to Foz do Iguaçu to see the falls from the Brazilian side, with sweeping panoramic views, then you cross into Argentina, remembering your passport, to walk along catwalks to the Devil's Throat.
Flying north to Manaus, capital of Amazonas, you set off along the Rio Negro to your village stay. In the Amazon you explore by tractor, speedboat and on foot, rising before dawn for a short boat ride and setting out on a night hike to discover the creatures of the rainforest, while learning about life in the community. On the final morning you return to Manaus, where the adventure ends.
The physical rating is medium, with hikes and early starts. This tour suits curious travellers who want a varied introduction to Brazil, from city sights to rainforest life, in a small group. Internal flights are included, and departures run in the first half of the year.
