Falklands, South Georgia & Antarctica Expedition Cruise – 20 Days
The Falklands, the king penguin colonies of South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula on one voyage, aboard a modern polar ship.
Tour overview
This 20-day expedition cruise is the most complete voyage to the far south, combining the Falkland Islands, the wildlife spectacle of South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. You sail aboard Ocean Victory, a modern polar ship with a stabilising X-bow, an ice-class hull, cabins with views (many with balconies), a heated boot room, viewing platforms near the waterline and two outdoor hot tubs. An expedition team leads every landing and lecture. The voyage includes one hotel night in Ushuaia, 18 nights on board with all meals, the loan of a waterproof expedition jacket and boots, and an arrival transfer. The ship carries up to around 180 passengers, with landings in smaller groups to protect the wildlife.
From Ushuaia you sail east across the Southern Ocean to the Falkland Islands. On West Falkland you visit remote settlements and rugged coasts home to albatrosses and rockhopper penguins, and in Stanley, the small capital on East Falkland, you explore a harbour town of colourful houses, a museum and a cathedral with a whalebone arch.

Crossing the Antarctic Convergence, where the water turns colder, you watch for wandering albatrosses, the world's largest flying bird. Four days on South Georgia, known as the Serengeti of the Southern Ocean, are the heart of the voyage. Tens of thousands of king penguins crowd its beaches alongside elephant seals and fur seals, beneath glaciers and snowy peaks. Landings may include old whaling stations and Grytviken, where the explorer Ernest Shackleton is buried.
Sailing through the iceberg-strewn Scotia Sea, you reach the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands for four days of Zodiac cruises and landings among gentoo and chinstrap penguins, seals and whales, against a backdrop of glaciers and ice cliffs. The ship then crosses the Drake Passage back to Ushuaia, with a photography contest and a slideshow of the voyage.
The physical rating is medium, with Zodiac landings and walks on uneven ground, and the open ocean can be rough. Itineraries depend on weather and ice. This voyage suits keen wildlife lovers and photographers who want the ultimate polar experience. Travel insurance with polar evacuation cover is essential.
