Tour overview

This 14-day escorted tour crosses South America from the Pacific to the Atlantic, with return flights from London, internal flights and transfers all included. A holiday director travels with the group throughout, with local guides in each city. You stay in four- and five-star hotels, including the Hilton on Copacabana beach in Rio, with breakfast daily and a farewell dinner at a Brazilian churrascaria. Porterage is included.

After the overnight flight, you begin in Santiago, set beneath the Andes, with an afternoon city tour and a free day, perhaps for a vineyard visit. Then comes one of the great road journeys of the continent: over the Andes and across the border into Argentina, with views of Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas, on the way to Mendoza, the wine capital at the foot of the mountains. A guided tour introduces the leafy city, with the afternoon free for its wineries.

A flight takes you to Buenos Aires for three nights, with a city tour of the Plaza de Mayo, the colourful houses of La Boca and Recoleta Cemetery, resting place of Eva Perón. Free days allow for the Tigre delta by riverboat, a tango show or a day trip across the River Plate to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay.

At Iguazú Falls you stay two nights on the Argentine side and spend a full day in the national park, riding the jungle train and walking the upper and lower trails to the thundering Devil's Throat. The tour ends with two nights in Rio de Janeiro, with time for Sugarloaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer and the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, and a farewell dinner before the flight home.

The pace mixes guided touring with free time, so you can choose how much to see. Optional excursions with your holiday director include a vineyard visit near Santiago, a riverboat trip on the Tigre delta and a day trip to Uruguay, while Rio offers Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer. Internal flights connect the longer legs, saving days of travel, and porterage is included, so you never have to carry your bags.

The physical rating is medium, with some early starts and walking at Iguazú. This tour suits travellers who want South America's great sights in comfort, with flights and hotels arranged.

Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.

Are flights included?

Yes. Return flights from London, internal flights from Mendoza to Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires to Iguazú and Iguazú to Rio, and all transfers are included.

How do we cross the Andes?

By road from Santiago to Mendoza, a spectacular day's drive through the mountains and across the Chile–Argentina border, with views of Aconcagua.

Which side of Iguazú Falls do we visit?

The Argentine side, with a full day in the national park, including the jungle train and the walk to the Devil's Throat.

Can you tailor the trip?

Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
