Tour overview

This 24-day small-group journey pairs a week-long cruise through the Galapagos with an in-depth tour of Peru, from colonial Arequipa and the Colca Canyon to Lake Titicaca, Machu Picchu and the Amazon rainforest. Groups have up to 16 travellers aged 15 and over, with a leader throughout. You stay twenty-three nights: seven aboard the motor yacht Grand Queen Beatriz, with en suite, air-conditioned ocean-view cabins, some with balconies, and a jacuzzi on deck, and sixteen in comfortable hotels and lodges, including a hotel in Aguas Calientes below Machu Picchu and a riverside jungle lodge in the Amazon. Twenty-three breakfasts, eleven lunches and twelve dinners are included, with full board on the cruise and in the jungle.

After a night in Quito you fly to San Cristobal to board your yacht. Over seven nights you cruise between the islands, landing at Bartolome's volcanic landscapes, Espumilla Beach on Santiago, North Seymour's seabird colonies, Black Turtle Cove's mangroves on Santa Cruz, and Sombrero Chino and Rabida, with naturalist-guided walks and snorkelling among sea lions, turtles and rays.

Flying to Lima, you take a walking tour of the historic centre before travelling to Arequipa, the White City, built of pale volcanic stone. You cross the Altiplano high plains to the Colca Canyon, rising early to watch Andean condors soar at the Cruz del Condor viewpoint, then continue to Puno for a cruise on Lake Titicaca to visit its island communities.

In Cusco a walking tour reveals the old Inca capital, and you head into the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo. A scenic train brings you to Aguas Calientes, with two visits to Machu Picchu, including an early return for sunrise. Finally, you fly to Puerto Maldonado for two nights at a jungle lodge, gliding by dugout canoe across Lake Sandoval to look for giant otters, caimans and macaws, before returning to Lima.

The physical rating is medium, with walking at altitude and some early starts. This journey suits travellers who want the Galapagos by sea and Peru in depth, in comfort and with the details handled. Flights to the Galapagos and within Peru are included in the price.

What financial protection do I get?

Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.

What is the yacht like?

A modern motor yacht with en suite, air-conditioned ocean-view cabins, some with balconies, a lounge and a jacuzzi.

Do I hike to Machu Picchu?

No, you travel by scenic train to Aguas Calientes and visit Machu Picchu twice.

Is altitude a concern?

Parts of Peru are above 3,800m, so the route climbs gradually. Seek medical advice if you have concerns.

Are internal flights included?

Yes, flights to and from the Galapagos, from Quito to Lima and to and from Puerto Maldonado.

Do I need visas?

UK visitors do not usually need visas for holiday stays in Ecuador or Peru. Check before you travel.

How many people travel together?

Up to 16 travellers aged 15 and over, with a leader.

Can you tailor the trip?

Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
