Galápagos Cruise & Peru’s Land of the Incas: Inca Trail – 21 Days
A Galápagos yacht cruise, the Peruvian Amazon, the Inca Trail with three nights camping, and a Lake Titicaca homestay.
Tour overview
This 21-day small-group adventure starts with a cruise in the Galápagos Islands, then continues to Peru for the Amazon, the Inca Trail and Lake Titicaca, ending in Bolivia. Groups have up to 16 travellers aged 15 and over, with local leaders and naturalist guides. You sleep aboard the motor yacht Grand Daphne in en-suite, air-conditioned cabins, then in hotels, two nights at a thatched jungle lodge, three nights camping on the Inca Trail in twin-share tents, and a night with a family on Lake Titicaca. Nineteen breakfasts, ten lunches and ten dinners are included.
After a welcome meeting in Quito, you fly to Baltra and board the Grand Daphne, which has a lounge, dining room and sundeck. Zodiac landings take you ashore on Santa Cruz, to the historic barrel post box at Post Office Bay on Floreana, and to Punta Suárez on Española, one of the richest wildlife sites in the islands, home to waved albatrosses, blue-footed boobies and marine iguanas. A final excursion takes you to Kicker Rock, a towering basalt crater split in two, before you fly back to the mainland. Snorkelling stops let you swim among sea lions, turtles and tropical fish.

In Lima you have a free morning before meeting the Peru group, then fly to Puerto Maldonado for two nights at a jungle lodge in the Amazon, with guided treks to learn about the rainforest. Cusco and the Sacred Valley follow, with a community lunch, before the classic Inca Trail over Dead Woman's Pass at 4,200 metres to the Sun Gate and Machu Picchu. Travellers who prefer can take the Quarry Trail or the train. Cusco has excellent cafés.
Crossing the Altiplano to Puno, you visit the floating Uros Islands, stay with a family in the Llachón community and visit Taquile Island, known for its hand-knitted textiles, before crossing into Bolivia to La Paz. The lake sits at about 3,800 metres.
The physical rating is medium, with a challenging trek at altitude. This trip suits active travellers who want a proper Galápagos cruise as well as Peru's great highlights. Single rooms and tents are available for a supplement.
