Glorious Switzerland: Geneva, Zermatt & Lucerne – 8 Days
Geneva, Zermatt, Lugano, St Moritz and Lucerne by coach and scenic train, with a tour director and hotel porterage.
Tour overview
This 8-day escorted tour takes you on a grand loop through Switzerland's lakes, passes and mountain resorts, travelling by comfortable coach with scenic train and cable car rides along the way. A tour director looks after you throughout, and hotel porterage is included. You stay seven nights in well-located hotels: the Royal in Geneva, Hemizeus & Iremia Spa in Zermatt for two nights, De La Paix in Lugano, Steffani in St Moritz and Astoria in Lucerne for two nights. Seven breakfasts and four dinners are included, from a traditional fondue in Geneva to a dine-around evening in Zermatt and a celebration dinner near Mount Stanserhorn.
In Geneva, the City of Gardens, you see the Jet d'Eau and the Floral Clock before following the shore of Lake Geneva to Montreux and Chillon Castle, with a guided visit led by the Head of Collections. A cogwheel train climbs to the car-free village of Zermatt, where a free day lets you hike, relax or take an optional cable car to the Klein Matterhorn for views across the Alps.

Heading south, you follow Napoleon's route over the Simplon Pass, more than 2,000m high, and along the shores of Lake Maggiore to elegant Lugano, with its Italian atmosphere. The San Bernardino and Julier passes then lead into the high Engadine Valley and the glamorous resort of St Moritz.
A scenic regional train follows part of the Glacier Express route past ice-capped peaks, stone villages and meadows, before you travel along the Upper Rhine through Liechtenstein to Lucerne. A final day by the lake includes a ride in an open-top cable car, powered by solar panels, to the summit of Mount Stanserhorn, before the tour ends with a transfer towards Zurich.
The physical rating is low. This tour suits travellers who want to see the highlights of Switzerland comfortably and efficiently, with a tour director handling every detail. Free time in Zermatt and Lucerne lets you add your own excursions, and porterage at every hotel means you never have to carry your bags. Departures run from April to September, when the high passes are open.
