Swiss Christmas Markets: Montreux & Château-d’Oex – 4 Days
Three nights in an Alpine village, the lakeside Christmas market at Montreux and an optional day in Bern, with flights from the UK.
Tour overview
This 4-day escorted break is a festive taste of Switzerland in early winter, combining the lakeside Christmas market at Montreux with a stay in a traditional Alpine village. Return flights from the UK to Geneva are included, along with coach transfers to and from the hotel and a tour director who travels with the group throughout. You stay three nights at the three-star Hotel Roc et Neige in Château-d'Oex, with dinner on the first two evenings. The break is for adults aged 21 and over, travelling in a coach group.
Château-d'Oex sits in a wide valley between the high Alps of the Bernese Oberland and the shores of Lake Geneva, about two hours from Geneva airport. The village, known for its hot-air balloon festival in January and its traditional paper-cutting craft, has shops, cafés and restaurants, a folk museum and chalets dusted with snow, making it a relaxing base for a winter break. The hotel is a short walk from the village centre, and the valley views are best enjoyed with a hot chocolate in one of the cafés.

On the second day you travel down to Montreux on Lake Geneva, where the Christmas market spreads along the lakeshore promenade, with wooden chalets selling local crafts, decorations, cheese, chocolate and mulled wine, and the snowy Alps rising across the water. There is time to visit the medieval Château de Chillon nearby, with entry payable locally, before returning to the hotel for dinner. The market usually runs from late November until Christmas Eve, and the promenade is lit up each evening.
The third day is yours. You can relax in Château-d'Oex, walk in the valley or join an optional excursion to Switzerland's capital, Bern, travelling past the ski resort of Gstaad and Lake Thun. Bern's UNESCO-listed old town is famous for its covered arcades, the Zytglogge clock tower and its Christmas markets around the Münster and on Waisenhausplatz. On the final day you return to Geneva for the flight home.
The physical rating is low. This break suits couples and friends looking for a short, festive escape with flights, transfers and hotel arranged, and the charm of Switzerland in winter.
