Cycling in Western Cuba: Havana, Viñales & Cayo Jutías – 7 Days
Ride through tobacco country, limestone valleys and quiet farmland to a white-sand cay, with a leader and support vehicle.
Tour overview
This 7-day small-group cycling trip explores the green west of Cuba by bike, from the faded grandeur of Havana to the limestone hills of Viñales and the beaches of the north coast. Groups have up to 16 travellers aged 15 and over, with a leader and a support crew. An air-conditioned support vehicle carries your luggage and covers the longer stretches, so you ride the most rewarding sections on quiet roads and can rest in the van whenever you like. Good hybrid bikes are provided. You stay in casas particulares, family-run guesthouses with en-suite rooms and air-conditioning, with all breakfasts, three lunches and one dinner.
After a welcome meeting in Havana, you are fitted to your bike in Vedado and ride back to the old city past John Lennon Park, the Grand Theatre and the Capitol, before a guided walk through Old Havana's four historic plazas. The support vehicle then takes you west to Soroa, known as the rainbow of Cuba.

A guided visit to the Soroa Orchid Garden is followed by a ride on well-paved roads shared with tractors, vintage American cars and horse-drawn carts, a swim in the San Juan River and a visit to Las Terrazas, a lakeside eco-village in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Next comes the cave of Los Portales, where Che Guevara based his army during the revolution, and the ride into the UNESCO-listed Viñales valley, with its towering limestone mogotes. Lunch is with a local farmer, and a tobacco farm shows how Cuba's cigars are made.
From the giant Mural de la Prehistoria you cycle through quiet, flat farmland to Cayo Jutías, a small island of white sand and pale blue water, for a beach lunch and a swim. The final ride runs across rural plains on some of the smoothest roads in Cuba before the drive back to Havana and a free afternoon.
The physical rating is medium, with a few short climbs, and the support vehicle is always close by. This trip suits active travellers who want to see rural Cuba up close, at a gentle pace, with plenty of local contact.

What financial protection do I get?
Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.
How fit do I need to be?
The physical rating is medium. Rides are mostly on paved roads with a few short climbs, and you can rest in the support vehicle at any time.

Who carries the luggage?
The support vehicle carries your bags between guesthouses and follows the group on longer rides.

Can you tailor the trip?
Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.
What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
Not quite the right fit? Make it tailor-made.
