Luxury Mexico City to Oaxaca: Teotihuacán, Puebla & Mitla – 8 Days
Mexico City, Teotihuacán, Puebla, Cholula and Oaxaca in heritage hotels, with a small group of up to 12.
Tour overview
This 8-day small-group tour explores the colonial heart of central Mexico, from the capital to Oaxaca, staying in characterful heritage hotels and with plenty of memorable food. Groups have up to 12 travellers aged 15 and over, with a knowledgeable local leader and an arrival transfer. You stay seven nights: two in an 1890s building with rooftop views in Mexico City, two at a feature-stay hotel in Puebla converted from 16th- and 17th-century houses, and three in a 19th-century mansion in Oaxaca. Seven breakfasts, three lunches and three dinners are included, from a welcome taco night to an award-winning restaurant in Puebla, a Zapotec home-cooked lunch and a farewell dinner in Oaxaca.
In Mexico City your leader shows you the capital's cosmopolitan neighbourhoods and historic heart, from the Zócalo and cathedral to its great murals. On the way to Puebla you explore the extraordinary ruins of Teotihuacán, with the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon along the Avenue of the Dead.

In Puebla, a UNESCO World Heritage city of tiled facades and baroque churches, you dine at an award-winning restaurant, and the next day join your leader in nearby Cholula, home to the largest pyramid by volume in the world, topped by a colonial church.
Oaxaca is a colourful city of markets, mezcal and some of Mexico's finest food. You tour the region, visiting the ruins of Mitla, famous for its intricate stone mosaics, and share a home-cooked lunch with a Zapotec family. A free day lets you explore the markets, galleries and mezcal bars before a farewell dinner.
The physical rating is low. This tour suits travellers who want a comfortable, food-focused week in central Mexico, or a perfect add-on before a Yucatán beach stay. Your leader shares tips on the best restaurants, markets and mezcal bars, and the gentle pace leaves plenty of time to enjoy each city. Central Mexico's mild highland climate makes it pleasant to visit for much of the year. Mexico's food is a highlight in itself, from street tacos and tamales to regional moles, and the country's warm hospitality makes it easy to feel at home. The dry season, from November to April, is the most comfortable time to travel.
