Grand Journey: Rocky Mountaineer & Alaska Cruise – 16 Days
The Icefields Parkway, Banff, the Rocky Mountaineer and a seven-night Alaska cruise, with flights included.
Tour overview
This 16-day escorted tour pairs the mountains of western Canada with a week's cruise along the Inside Passage to Alaska, linked by two days on the Rocky Mountaineer, one of the world's most celebrated train journeys. A tour director travels with you on land, and flights to Calgary and home from Vancouver are included. You stay seven nights in superior three-star hotels, including the Banff Park Lodge with its cosy fireplace and indoor pool, and seven nights aboard Holland America Line's Koningsdam. Hotels are on a room-only basis, with meals on the train and full board on the cruise.
From Calgary you set off on a spectacular journey into the Rockies along the Icefields Parkway, one of the most beautiful roads in the world, lined with glaciers, waterfalls and turquoise lakes such as Peyto and Bow. In Banff you have a free day to take a leisurely walk, ride the gondola up Sulphur Mountain, visit Lake Louise or relax in the hot springs.

Boarding the Rocky Mountaineer, you travel through the mountains by daylight, with an overnight stop in Kamloops, then continue along the Fraser River canyon to Vancouver. Regularly named one of the world's most liveable cities, Vancouver offers a free day for Stanley Park, Granville Island's market or the historic Gastown district.
Boarding Koningsdam, you spend a first full day at sea easing into life on board, then cruise into Tracy Arm, a narrow fjord lined with waterfalls and glaciers, before calling at Juneau. In Skagway, a gold-rush town of wooden boardwalks, you can ride the White Pass railway. A highlight is a day in Glacier Bay National Park, watching tidewater glaciers calve into the sea, before a final call at Ketchikan, famous for its totem poles and salmon, and a last day at sea through the Inside Passage. You leave the ship in Vancouver for your flight home.
The physical rating is low, with optional excursions. This tour suits travellers who want to see the Rockies and Alaska in one comfortable, well-organised journey.
