Rocky Mountaineer: Banff, Jasper, Vancouver & Victoria – 11 Days
Banff, the Icefields Parkway, Jasper, the Rocky Mountaineer, Vancouver and Victoria, with flights from Heathrow.
Tour overview
This 11-day escorted tour crosses western Canada from the peaks of the Rockies to the Pacific coast, riding the legendary Rocky Mountaineer through the mountains by daylight. A tour director travels with you throughout, and return flights between London Heathrow and Calgary, home from Vancouver, are included. You stay nine nights in hotels on a room-only basis: two each in Banff, Jasper, Vancouver and Victoria, and one in Kamloops. Meals are served on board the Rocky Mountaineer, and the rest of the time you are free to choose from local restaurants, from mountain lodges to Vancouver's seafood spots.
After flying direct to Calgary, you meet your tour director and travel by coach to Banff, the bustling capital of the Rockies, in its dramatic setting among snow-capped peaks. An optional sightseeing tour introduces the town, the Banff Springs Hotel and the lakes around it, or you can ride the gondola and relax in the hot springs.

Travelling north along the Icefields Parkway, one of the most scenic roads in the world, you stop at Lake Louise and pass glaciers, waterfalls and turquoise lakes on the way to Jasper. A day in Jasper gives you the chance to ride the Jasper SkyTram for mountain views and visit Maligne Lake, one of the most photographed places in Canada.
Boarding the Rocky Mountaineer, you begin a two-day rail journey through canyons and forests, with an overnight stop in Kamloops, before continuing along the Fraser River to Vancouver. An optional city tour shows you Stanley Park, Gastown and Granville Island. You then take the ferry across the Strait of Georgia to Vancouver Island and Victoria, the elegant provincial capital, with its harbour, gardens and the optional chance to join a whale-watching cruise. A ferry returns you to the mainland for your flight home.
The physical rating is low, with optional excursions and plenty of free time, and the coach journeys are broken up with regular stops for photographs and refreshments. This tour suits travellers who want a comfortable introduction to western Canada, with the train as its centrepiece.
