Red Centre Highlights: Uluru, Kings Canyon & Kata Tjuta – 4 Days
Uluru at sunrise and sunset, the Kings Canyon rim and Kata Tjuta, with three nights at Ayers Rock Resort.
Tour overview
This 4-day tour explores the heart of Australia's Red Centre, from the great monolith of Uluru and the domes of Kata Tjuta to the sandstone walls of Kings Canyon, with an experienced driver-guide sharing the stories of the land and its Anangu owners. You travel in an air-conditioned coach and stay three nights at the Desert Gardens Hotel at Ayers Rock Resort, so you unpack only once. Breakfast at Kings Creek Station and a dinner are included, along with your Uluru–Kata Tjuta National Park ticket and a complimentary transfer from Ayers Rock Airport.
On arrival you visit the Uluru–Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to learn about Anangu traditions and the Tjukurpa, the law that guides life here. Your guide then leads you to sacred sites around the base of Uluru, including the Kuniya Walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole, before you watch the rock change colour at sunset with a glass of sparkling wine.

The second day is spent at Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park, with breakfast on the way at Kings Creek Station, a working cattle station that is also Australia's largest exporter of wild camels. You can choose the three-hour Rim Walk, rocky and steep in places, past beehive-shaped domes to lookouts over the sheer canyon walls and the waterhole known as the Garden of Eden, or an easier walk along the creek bed.
Rising early, you watch the first rays of sunrise light up Uluru from Talinguru Nyakunytjaku with a warming drink, then travel to the 36 domes of Kata Tjuta for a walk into Walpa Gorge. On your final morning you can experience Bruce Munro's Field of Light, an installation of 50,000 glowing spheres spread across the desert, before your transfer to the airport.
The physical rating is medium, with an optional steep rim walk and early starts. This short tour suits travellers who want to see the Red Centre's three great landscapes with expert commentary and minimal planning. Pack a hat, sunscreen and a fly net, and bring layers for cool desert mornings and evenings. Departures run almost every day of the year, so it is easy to fit into a wider trip around Australia.
