Australia & New Zealand Panorama: Melbourne to Auckland – 15 Days
Melbourne, the Great Barrier Reef, Sydney, Queenstown and Rotorua, with internal flights and a tour director.
Tour overview
This 15-day escorted tour brings together the highlights of Australia and New Zealand, from cosmopolitan Melbourne and the Great Barrier Reef to Sydney's famous harbour, the alpine scenery of Queenstown and the volcanic landscapes of Rotorua. A tour director travels with you throughout, with local guides along the way and internal flights between the main stops. You stay fourteen nights in comfortable hotels, among them the Crowne Plaza on the banks of the Yarra River in Melbourne, the Hilton in Cairns and the Sofitel Wentworth in Sydney. Fourteen breakfasts, two lunches and six dinners are included, from a welcome dinner in Melbourne to a farm-stay dinner in New Zealand's high country.
In Melbourne, Australia's cultural capital, a guided walk introduces its laneways, arcades and street art. A flight takes you north to Cairns, the heart of Tropical North Queensland, for a full-day cruise to the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, with a buffet lunch and time to snorkel among coral and tropical fish. A free day allows for the Skyrail rainforest cableway to Kuranda or a trip to the Daintree.

In Sydney, guided sightseeing takes in the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and Bondi Beach, with lunch included and a free day to explore further. Crossing the Tasman Sea to Queenstown, New Zealand's adventure capital, you visit a high-country farm for a taste of southern hospitality and have a free day for Milford Sound, a jet boat ride or a gondola up to the mountains.
Flying to Auckland, you travel by coach to Rotorua, where you visit the National Kiwi Hatchery with conservationists and explore the geothermal valleys and Maori culture of the region, with a cultural dinner. On the final day you cruise beneath the glowworms of the Waitomo Caves on the way back to Auckland for a farewell evening.
The physical rating is low, with gentle walking and several flights. This tour suits travellers who want to see the best of both countries in comfort, with every detail arranged and plenty of free time. Internal flights save long journeys, and departures run from spring to autumn in the southern hemisphere.
