Tour overview

This 8-day walking holiday explores the dramatic Faroe Islands, a remote North Atlantic archipelago of sheer sea cliffs, green valleys and turf-roofed villages. A tour leader guides the group on daily walks. You stay seven nights in three hotels, on Vágar, in Klaksvík and in the capital Tórshavn, with breakfast daily and a dinner.

From Vágar you take the ferry to Mykines and walk to its lighthouse in search of puffins, then take a boat beneath the towering Vestmanna bird cliffs and hike to Lake Sørvágsvatn, which appears to float above the sea, and the Bøsdalafossur waterfall. A sea cliff hike at Eiði and a visit to the village of Gjógv and its natural harbour lead to Klaksvík in the northern isles.

You explore Viðoy and climb Klakkur on Borðoy for views across the islands, then cross to tranquil Nólsoy by boat. Your final walk follows the old path from Tórshavn to Kirkjubøur, the southernmost village on Streymoy and the medieval centre of the Faroes.

The physical rating is medium, with walks of several hours on uneven paths. This holiday suits walkers who want to explore one of Europe’s wildest landscapes.
