Cape Town, the Garden Route & Big Five Safari with Flights – 12 Days
Big Five game drives, the Garden Route, the winelands and Cape Town, with flights and a tour director.
Tour overview
This 12-day escorted tour combines a private game reserve safari with the coastline, caves and vineyards of the Western Cape, ending with three nights in Cape Town. Return flights to Cape Town are included, and a tour director travels with you throughout by comfortable coach. You stay nine nights in carefully chosen hotels and a safari lodge, with two nights in flight. Breakfast is included daily, along with two lunches and four dinners, including lodge dinners and an evening by the boma fire.
On arrival in Cape Town you head east along the coast to Stony Point, home to a colony of African penguins, and Hermanus, one of the world's best places for land-based whale watching, with a whale-watching cruise included on September to November departures. You then travel to the Garden Route Game Lodge, in a private reserve beneath the Langeberg mountains, for two nights and four game drives in search of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino.

After a final morning drive, you continue to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world, for a barbecue lunch and a guided tour of the Cango Caves, with their vast caverns of stalactites and stalagmites, before two nights in Mossel Bay. A cruise on the Knysna lagoon is followed by a 4×4 ride up to the headland of the Featherbed Nature Reserve for spectacular views, and lunch under milkwood trees.
Heading west into the Cape Winelands, you enjoy lunch and a tasting in Franschhoek, the culinary capital of South Africa, and stay in historic Stellenbosch. In Cape Town you tour the Castle of Good Hope, the Company's Gardens and Bo-Kaap, ride the cable car up Table Mountain, weather permitting, and drive Chapman's Peak to Cape Point and its funicular, with a visit to Kirstenbosch. A free day lets you visit Robben Island or the V&A Waterfront before your overnight flight home.
The physical rating is low. This tour suits travellers who want safari, scenery and wine in one well-organised holiday with flights.

What financial protection do I get?
Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.

How many game drives are there?
Four, at the Garden Route Game Lodge in a private reserve.
Is whale watching included?
Yes, a cruise is included on departures between September and November.
Do I need a visa?
UK citizens don't need a visa for South Africa, but passports need two blank pages.
Is Table Mountain guaranteed?
The cable car runs only in suitable weather.
Who leads the tour?
A tour director travels with you throughout.
Can you tailor the trip?
Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.
What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
Not quite the right fit? Make it tailor-made.
If this group tour doesn't match your ideal trip, our specialists will turn it into a private tailor-made journey — your own dates, your own pace, upgraded hotels where you want them, and the parts you don't love swapped out. Same destinations, just rebuilt around you.
